Corny!

Seriously - I love this ad - it makes me laugh and hum the tune all day, and I'm captivated every time I watch it. I also feel pretty sure that I am the target market. So - well done Coke. Well done in my book. :-D

Silly!

This is for my dad - he loves this song and so, I think it's appropriate for today. Enjoy!

A Job!

Hooray!
Today I accepted a position at RealDecoy/Axionic as a Project Manager! Huzzah!
Unemployed no longer. :-)

By the way - I'm not being a slacker - I'm just finishing off the last of two different posts on the bridal industry and advertising and another one on vanity sizing. There's also a posting in the works about employer branding too. So keep your eyes peeled!

Sicko

Yeah - I have a cold and feel like crap. So - unless I have a moment of lucidity where I find the words to convey how I feel about Employer Branding and Vanity Sizing, please bear with. I'll post soon. Promise. I mean, how interesting are both of those topics? :-)

SuperBowl: Heaps of Uninspired

Yeah - Like a bazillion other marketing / advertising people, I watched the Superbowl. Except I was forced to watch it on Global here in Ottawa and the ads sucked. Just blew. My favourite Canadian ad was Coke's take on Grand Theft Auto.

I also really liked Coke's 'What Goes Around' Ad

The reason I like these ads so much is because they're original (at least in my opinion they are - feel free to let me know if you disagree), and they reach the watching demographic perfectly. Who typically watches the Superbowl? According to Nielsen Research, 39.6% are men 18 +, and29.3% of viewers are women 18+. Is it me, or does this sound like men and their SO's? If so, on paper the demographic plus the ad choices Coke made were well matched. I know the Coke ads were not debuted at the Superbowl, but I do think it was a wise decision to buy the media time and show them.

As for the craptacular other ads, well, I don't feel like wasting my time reviewing them other than:
- The Bell beavers are tired. Really. They need to hibernate for awhile. Everyone knows beavers hibernate in Canada in the winter. If I retained anything from Hinterlands Who's who is that they need rest. As does this tired and insipid campaign. Seriously. Enough already.
- Rogers ads = equally boring.
- Deal or No Deal - nice try. Points for effort, but still lame.

And finally, one Go Daddy ad, that I understand was aired in the US really summarized marketing up perfectly. Or not. ;-)

Gratuitous Pet Photos

Today please allow me to entertain you with photos of my furry family, who are endlessly entertaining and sometimes a royal pain in the ass.

Here are the girls - Bisquit (aka Grey cat) and Kismet (aka Orange cat). Biskies will be a whopping 12 on March 25 th, which makes me feel particularly old since I was there for her birth. Kizzie is 3, and a total princess - she has a whole 'don't look / touch me' thing going on, except for a) feeding time and b) 5 minutes after we turn off the light to go to bed. Then she's a purr-bot. Oh - and they never cuddle like that - it was a rare moment, hence the photo.

This is the old man of the group - here's Dolan in Tofino in 2003. He'll be 12 in July and for an old dog, he's pretty spry, although he does have his grumpy moments.

This is Roo. She's 16 months and like a little shark - she rarely stops moving. Really, she's very bright and is infatuated with the cats. Who are not as infatuated, although Kismet enjoys the occasional game of chase.

Ok - I couldn't resist - here's a couple of cute shots - Kismet in Dolan's bowl:

And what the kitchen looked like one day in September when I came home with a migraine. Apparently the Kleenex box was within reach:
